EMBER WRENN

THE HUMAN BEHIND THE MUSIC

My name is Wendy Vaile, and I’m the woman behind Ember Wrenn.

Ember Wrenn is my artist identity—the name and visual persona I created to represent my music. Behind that identity is a real person with real experiences, real ideas, and a very human reason for creating.

My songs can begin almost anywhere. Sometimes they come from something I’ve lived through. Sometimes it’s a conversation, a relationship, an observation, a feeling, or a subject that gets stuck in my head and refuses to leave.

Whatever starts it, I decide what I want the song to say and how I want it to feel.

I develop the concept, lyrics, story, structure, mood, instrumentation, vocal character, and overall creative direction. I experiment. I rewrite. I change things that don’t work. Sometimes I start over.

And yes, AI technology is part of that process.

I don’t hide that.

HOW I CREATE MY MUSIC

Every Ember Wrenn song starts with an idea.

Before I’m worried about production, I’m thinking about the story. What am I actually trying to say? What should the listener feel? What belongs in the song—and what doesn’t?

From there, I develop the lyrics and determine the direction I want the music to take.

That can mean deciding whether a song needs to feel intimate or aggressive, stripped down or cinematic, dark or playful. I make decisions about tempo, instrumentation, vocal delivery, arrangement, and the overall atmosphere I want to create.

Then I use creative tools—including AI music technology—to help turn those decisions into sound.

That process involves experimentation and a lot of listening.

I don’t automatically accept the first thing a program gives me. A generation can have the wrong vocal delivery, wrong pacing, wrong instrumentation, or simply not capture what I intended.

When that happens, I keep working.

The technology can generate sound.

It can’t decide what sounds like Ember Wrenn. That’s my job.

YES, I USE AI

I think it’s better to say this plainly:  Yes, I use AI tools as part of creating Ember Wrenn music.

AI is a tool in my creative process—not something I’m interested in disguising or pretending isn’t there.

At the same time, the phrase “AI music” can describe wildly different creative processes.

My goal isn’t to type a sentence into a generator, take whatever comes out, and flood streaming services with songs.

I’m building an artist and a body of work that I actually care about.

I make choices about the subjects I explore, the words, the sound, the emotional tone, the vocal character, the arrangements, and what ultimately carries the Ember Wrenn name.

If something doesn’t feel right, I don’t release it simply because a computer was capable of generating it.

Technology gives me possibilities. I make the creative decisions.

WHO IS EMBER WRENN?

Ember Wrenn is an artistic persona created by me, Wendy Vaile.

She gives the music a visual and artistic identity of its own.

I’m not trying to convince anyone that Ember is secretly a flesh-and-blood singer standing in a recording booth somewhere.

She’s an artist persona representing music created through my ideas and creative direction.

That distinction matters to me.

The visual identity, voice, attitude, and sound of Ember have all been intentionally developed to remain recognizable from one project to another.

I want someone to hear an Ember Wrenn song and eventually think:

“That sounds like Ember.”

That’s what building an artist identity means to me.

THE VOICE OF EMBER WRENN

The voice is part of that identity too.

I’ve spent time developing the kind of vocal character I want associated with Ember Wrenn—particularly the textured, raspy, emotionally imperfect qualities that fit the music I create.

I’m not interested in impersonating a famous singer or passing someone else’s voice off as my own creation.

I want Ember to have her own recognizable voice.

Like the visual persona, that voice is another creative element of the larger Ember Wrenn project.

THERE ARE HUMANS ON BOTH ENDS OF THIS PROCESS

My part of the creative process isn’t where an Ember Wrenn release ends.

I work with Andrew, who takes the music I’ve created and handles the final technical production work before release.

He applies the finishing touches, works on the final sound and mastering, and helps make sure the finished track is properly prepared for distribution. He also handles releasing my music to streaming platforms for me.

That collaboration is an important part of the process.

I bring him the Ember Wrenn creation I’ve developed, and he provides another set of human ears along with the technical knowledge needed to take it through the final stages before the public hears it.

So while modern technology plays a significant role in how I create, there are human decisions throughout the entire process—from the original idea to the finished release.

MY PERSPECTIVE ON AI & MUSIC

I understand why AI in music makes some people uncomfortable.

There are important questions surrounding copyright, consent, voice cloning, compensation for artists, training data, ownership, and what happens to musicians as this technology becomes more capable.

Those conversations shouldn’t be dismissed.

I also don’t think every person using AI creatively should automatically be placed into the same category.

Technology has changed the way people create art many times before, and we’re living through another one of those changes now.

Where the line should ultimately be drawn is something artists, listeners, technology companies, lawmakers, and the music industry are still figuring out.

I’m figuring out my place in it too.

What I can control is how I choose to use these tools.

I can be transparent.

I can respect other artists.

I can avoid deliberately impersonating someone else’s creative identity.

I can put actual thought and effort into what I release.

And I can continue learning as both the technology and the rules surrounding it evolve.

That’s the approach I intend to take.

WHY I CREATE

I didn’t start creating Ember Wrenn because I wanted AI to make music for me.

I started because I had things I wanted to say.

There were stories I wanted to tell, emotions I wanted to put somewhere, subjects I wanted to explore, and music I could imagine even though I didn’t have a traditional path for turning all of those ideas into finished recordings.

Technology changed what was possible for me.

Suddenly, the music that existed as ideas could become something I could actually hear.

And then something you could hear.

That’s the part of this that excites me most.

I’m still learning. I’m still experimenting. My sound will continue evolving, and the technology will undoubtedly continue changing too.

But the reason behind it remains remarkably simple:

There’s a human being behind Ember Wrenn.

Her name is Wendy Vaile.

And she has a lot more to say.
